What is the EU Settlement scheme?
The grace period to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme for the right to work has now passed. The EU Settlement Scheme allows you to continue to live, work and study here in the UK.
It means you continue to be eligible for:
public services, such as healthcare and schools
public funds and pensions
British citizenship, if you want to apply and meet the requirements.
As of yesterday, (July 1st, 2021) EEA citizens and their family members can no longer rely on their EEA passport or national identity card to prove their right to work in the UK. Instead they must prove their immigration status in the same way as all other foreign nationals.
As an employer, you will need your EEA workers (hired after 1st July 2021), granted a status under EUSS, to provide a share code, so you can carry out a Right to Work check.

EU Settlement Scheme explained - and what will happen once deadline passes
With the Brexit transition period over and freedom of movement ended, EU citizens and their families have been asked to apply to the scheme, which launched in March 2019, so they can continue living and working in the UK.
The Home Office says that up to the end of May, 5.6 million applications have been lodged (5,605,800).
Individuals who have yet to apply effectively lose their lawful immigration status.
This could stop them getting a new job or moving house until their status is confirmed as part of the scheme.
People will be able to submit applications once the deadline has passed, provided they meet the "reasonable grounds" for a late application.
